EA is not happy with simply being one of the biggest fish in the video game publishing pond; they also want to spread their wings into TV and movies as well. The industry giant today revealed that they have hired Hollywood representatives United Talent Agency to leverage their various IPs into movies and TV series. Said Patrick O’Brien, VP of EA Entertainment:
"UTA is an ideal partner for us to bring the richness and story-telling nuance of our popular games into other forms of media that give consumers more ways to experience these creative concepts. Some of our teams have already made steps to expand our games into other forms of media like online, social networks, and print publication. This partnership will help us take these efforts to the next level and match each of our titles with the right artists, producers and financiers."
Just when you thought EA couldn’t get any bigger, they pull a fast one and expand their empire into other forms of media. The announcement comes on the heels of agreements to do a Dead Space animated DVD, as well as a My Sims TV show, so who knows what will come next? I’m personally hoping for a Mercenaries animated series that hearkens back to the heyday of "G.I. Joe," but with more explosions and swearing. You know you’d wake up early on a Saturday morning for that.
